Good News Translation
At that time there appeared in the land of Israel a group of traitorous Jews who had no regard for the Law and who had a bad influence on many of our people. They said, "Let's come to terms with the Gentiles, for our refusal to associate with them has brought us nothing but trouble."

In those days certain renegades came out from Israel and misled many, saying, “Let us go and make a covenant with the Gentiles around us, for since we separated from them many disasters have come upon us.”

About this time, some worthless Jews rejected God's Law and talked many others into following them by saying, "Let's make an agreement with the Gentiles around here. We've had nothing but trouble ever since we stopped cooperating with them."
