1 Maccabees 2:29
Good News Translation
At that time also many of the Israelites who were seeking to be right with God through obedience to the Law went out to live in the wilderness, taking their children, their wives, and their livestock with them, because of the terrible oppression they were suffering.

At that time many who were seeking righteousness and justice went down to the wilderness to live there,

Many of the Jews were now in serious trouble for trying to obey God and live right. So they took their families and livestock and moved to the desert.
