Isaiah 41
Gaebelein's Annotated Bible
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgment.
CHAPTER 41

Jehovah’s Challenge

1. The address to the islands and the peoples (Isaiah 41:1) 2. Jehovah’s question, Cyrus and his ways predicted (Isaiah 41:2-4) 3. Nations troubled on account of Cyrus (Isaiah 41:5-7) 4. Israel as Jehovah’s servant (Isaiah 41:8) 5. The message of comfort and assurance of restoration (Isaiah 41:9-20) 6. Jehovah’s second challenge: He alone can declare things to come (Isaiah 41:21-24) 7. The future things revealed (Isaiah 41:25-29) Cyrus is here mentioned for the first time, though not yet by name. He is in view in Isaiah 41:2-3 and Isaiah 41:25. His work as a mighty conqueror is outlined and the consternation of the surrounding nations on account of it is described. Isaiah 41:18-20 go beyond the times of Cyrus. They can only be fulfilled when He who is greater than Cyrus will appear.
