1 Peter 4

1So, then, since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, steel your minds also, with the same resolve; for those that suffer for Christ in the flesh are done with sin, 2So that they no longer live the rest of their lives serving the lusts of the flesh, but are eager to do the will of God. 3For you have spent enough of your past life in pagan pursuits - in debauchery, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and abominable idolatry. 4And now, those that continue in that lifestyle think it strange that you no longer plunge into the same reckless living with them; and so they heap verbal abuse upon you; 5But they shall have to give an account to Him Who (Christ) is ready to judge the quick (living) and the dead. 6That is why the gospel (Good News) was preached even to those who are now dead, so that even though they were destined to die (in the flesh) like all people, yet they might live forever with God in the Spirit.

7But the end of all things is near. Therefore, be alert, earnest and disciplined in your prayers. 8And above all else, love one another; for love covers a multitude of sins. 9Show hospitality to each other without grumbling. 10Let everyone exercise whatever gifts they have been given to minister and serve each other, as good stewards of the grace of God in its many varied forms. 11If anyone speaks, they should do so as if God, Himself were speaking the words of God; and if any man ministers (serves), let him do it with as much ability as God gives him, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To Him be praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

12Dear friends, do not think of the fiery trials which come to test you as something strange happening to you, 13But rejoice, inasmuch as you are sharing in Christ's sufferings; so that, when His glory shall be revealed, you may overjoyed. 14If you are insulted because you bear the name of Christ, you are blessed; for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 15But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, or some other type of criminal, or for meddling in other people's affairs. 16But if anyone suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but rather glorify God that you bear that name.

17For the time has come for judgment that must begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us, what shall the outcome be for those that rejected the gospel of God? 18And if the righteous are scarcely saved, what shall happen to the ungodly and the sinner? 19So then, those that suffer according to the will of God should commit the keeping of their souls to their faithful Creator, and continue to do good.
