7And we continued, sailing from Tyre to Ptolemais, where we greeted the brethren, and stayed with them one day. 8And the next day we came to Caesarea; and stayed at the home of Philip, the evangelist, who was one of the seven chosen to distribute food. 9Philip had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied. 10And after we had stayed there several days, a certain prophet, named Agabus, came down from Judaea. 11And when he come to us, he took Paul's belt, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owns this belt, and shall hand him over to the Gentiles’”. 12And when we heard these things, both we, and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. 13Then Paul answered, “Why do you weep and to break my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” 14And when we could not persuade him, we gave up, saying, “The will of the Lord be done”.

15And after this we packed our luggage, and started for Jerusalem. 16And some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, and brought us to one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we would stay. 17And when we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers and sisters welcomed us warmly. 18And the next day Paul went with us to meet James; and all the elders were present. 19And when he had greeted them, Paul reported in detail what God had accomplished among the Gentiles through his ministry.

20And when they heard his report, they praised God, and said to Paul, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who now believe; and they all zealously obey the law; 21And they have been told that you teach all the Jews who among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, and that they should not circumcise their children, nor to live by the (Jewish) customs. 22What shall we do? Because they will hear that you have come. 23So do what we tell to you: We have four men who have made a vow; 24Take them, and join them in their purification rites (ceremony), and pay their expenses, that they may shave their heads, and then they will all know that those rumors that they’d heard about you are untrue, but that you yourself live in observance of the law. 25As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them and have concluded that they observe no such laws, except only that they abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from fornication.” 26Then Paul took the men, and the next day, purified himself with them, then entered the temple, to signify (give notice of) the date of completion of the days of purification, and sacrifices would be offered for each of them. 27And when the seven days were almost ended, some Jews who from Asia, when they saw Paul in the temple, stirred up all the people, and seized him, 28Shouting out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man that teaches all men everywhere against our people, and our law, and this place; and he also brought Greeks into the temple, and has defiled this holy place.” 29(For they had previously seen Trophimus, an Ephesian, with him in the city, and they assumed that Paul had brought into the temple.) 30And the whole city was aroused, and the people rushed upon Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and quickly shut the doors.

31And as they prepared to kill him, news that all Jerusalem was in an uproar came to the captain of the Roman troops, 32Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down among them. And when they saw the captain and the soldiers, they stopped beating of Paul. 33Then the captain came and arrested him, and ordered him bound with two chains; and demanded to know who he was, and what he had done. 34And some in the mob yelled one thing, some another; and when he could be sure what had caused the tumult, he commanded to take Paul into the barracks. 35And when Paul came to some stairs, the violence of the people was such that the soldiers had to carry him, 36Because the mob followed, shouting, “Away with him”. 37And as Paul was about to be led into the barracks, he said to the captain, “May I speak to you?” and the captain said, “Do you speak Greek? 38Are you not that Egyptian, who earlier caused an uproar, and led four thousand murderers out into the wilderness?” 39Paul replied, “I am a Jewish citizen of Tarsus, prominent city in Cilicia; please allow me to address the people”. 40And when given permission, Paul stood on the stairs, and motioned to the people for silence. And when they quieted down, he addressed them in Hebrew, saying,
