Malachi 4
Easy Reader Bible: Purple Letter EditionKJP
1The LORD Almighty says, “Surely, the day is coming that shall burn like a furnace, and all the arrogant, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and that coming day shall burn them up, leaving them neither root nor branch. 2But for you that revere My name, the Sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in His wings (its rays); and you shall go out and frolic like well-fed calves. 3And you shall trample on the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I shall do this”, says the LORD Almighty.

4“Remember the law of My servant, Moses, the decrees (statutes and ordinances) which I gave to him at Horeb for all Israel.

5See, I will send you Elijah, the prophet, before the coming of that great and dreadful day of the LORD; 6And he (Elijah) shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to hearts of their parents, otherwise, I will come and strike the earth with utter destruction.”

In verse 6, the pronoun “he” is likely Elijah, or perhaps, John the Baptist in the spirit of Elijah; and “fathers” is likely a reference to the patriarchs, whom the prophet Malachi regards as estranged from the current degenerate descendants that no longer acknowledge those patriarchs because of their degenerate character and behavior.
