2Therefore, when you do your alms (give to the needy), do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, to be praised by people. Truly I tell you, ‘They have their reward’. 3But when you do alms, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does; 4So that your giving is in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.

5And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and at the street corners, to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, ‘They have their reward’. 6But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father Who in private; and your Father, Who sees in secret, shall reward you openly. 7But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions (babblings), as the heathen do; for they think that they shall be heard for their many words. 8So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you have need of before you even ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, in this manner: ‘Our Father, Who is in heaven, may Your Name be hallowed (kept holy). 10May Your kingdom come and Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us our bread (the food we need) for each day. 12And forgive us our debts (sins, offenses, or trespasses), as we forgive our debtors (those who have offended us). 13And lead us not into (help us to not yield to) temptation, but deliver (protect or rescue) us from evil (or the evil one); For Yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” 14For if you forgive men their trespasses (others who trespass or offend you), your heavenly Father will also forgive you; 15But if you do not forgive men (others) their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad or somber countenance (appearance); for they disfigure their faces (try to look miserable), so that they may appear to others to be fasting, (to gain the admiration of others). Truly I say to you, ‘They have received their reward in full.’ 17But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; 18So that you do not appear to others to fast, but only unto your Father Who knows what you do in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, shall reward you openly.

19Do not lay up (store) treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and rust can corrupt, and where thieves can break in and steal; 20But rather lay up (store) treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor rust can corrupt, and where thieves cannot break in nor steal them; 21For where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be also. 22TYour eye is the light of the body; if your eye is healthy, your whole body shall be full of light. 23But if your eye is evil (unhealthy), then your whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24No man can serve two masters; for either you will hate the one, and love the other; or else you will be devoted to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 25Therefore I tell you, ‘Do not be anxious for your life, for what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet about your body, what you shall wear. Is not life more than just food, and clothing for the body? 26Behold the birds of the air; they do not sow, nor do they reap, or store food in barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable to Him than they? 27Who among you, by being anxious, can add one cubit to his stature? 28And why worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they don’t toil, nor do they spin to make their clothing; 29And yet I tell you that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed as splendidly as one of these. 30So if that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more splendidly clothe you, O you of little faith? 31Therefore, take no thought, saying, “What shall we eat?” or, “What shall we drink?” or, “What shall we wear?” 32For all the Gentiles also seek these things, but your heavenly Father knows that you have need of them. 33But first seek the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these other things shall be given to you as well. 34Therefore, do not be anxious (worry) about tomorrow; for tomorrow will be anxious (worry) about itself. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.’”
