Psalm 38

A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.

1O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger; nor punish me in Your wrath. 2For Your arrows pierce me, and Your hand presses me hard. 3I am in great pain because of Your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. 4For my guilt has overwhelmed me; it is a burden too heavy to bear. 5My wounds fester and are repulsive because of my foolish sins. 6I am bent over and brought very low; I go around mourning all day long. 7For I have sharp pain inside; my body is no longer healthy. 8I am weak and very sore; I have groaned because of the anguish of my heart. 9LORD, You know all my desire; and my sighing is not hidden from You. 10My heart pounds, my strength fails me; and vision has also departed from my eyes.

11My loved ones and friends avoid me because of my condition; even and my kinsmen stand afar off. 12And those who seek my life, lay their traps for me; and they who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and dream up deceptions all the day long. 13But I am deaf to their threats; and am as a mute; I do not opens my mouth. 14Thus I was like a man who does not hear, and offers no rebuttals. 15For I wait for You, O LORD, and I hope that You will hear, O LORD my God. 16For I said, “Hear me, for otherwise they will gloat and rejoice over my downfall”, when I stumble. 17For I am ready to collapse, and my pain is continuous. 18For I will confess my sins; and be sorry for my sin. 19But my enemies are vigorous and strong; and they are many who hate me for no reason. 20They that return evil for good are also my adversaries for pursuing what is good. 21Do not forsake me, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me. 22Come to my aid quickly, O LORD, my salvation.
