2 Chronicles 20:23-37 ▼

23 And the sons of Ammon stood up—and Moab—against those dwelling in Mount Seir, to devote to destruction and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbor for destruction.

24 And Judah came to the watchtower in the wilderness, and they looked toward the multitude, and behold, their corpses were fallen on the earth, and no one had escaped.

25 And Jehoshaphat came, and his people, to take away the spoils, and they found among them an abundance of goods, and corpses, and precious articles, and they took for themselves more than they could carry away. And they were three days gathering the spoil, because it was so much.

26 And on the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, for there they blessed YHWH. Upon thus was called the name of that place the Valley of Berachah to this day.

27 And they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for YHWH had made them rejoice over their enemies.

28 And they came to Jerusalem with harps and lyres and trumpets to the house of YHWH.

29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that YHWH had fought against the enemies of Israel.

30 And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was quiet, for his God gave rest to him all around.

31 And Jehoshaphat was king over Judah, a son of thirty-five years in his reigning, and twenty-five years he reigned in Jerusalem. And the name of His mother was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

32 And he walked in the way of his father Asa and did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the eyes of YHWH.

33 Nevertheless, the high places were not taken away, and still the people did not establish their hearts to the God of their fathers.

34 And the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, indeed they are written in the records of Jehu son of Hanani, which is taken up in the Book of the Kings of Israel.

35 And after this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined with Ahaziah king of Israel; he acted wickedly in so doing.

36 And he allied himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.

37 And Eliezer son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “For your joining yourself with Ahaziah, YHWH has destroyed your works.” And the ships were wrecked, and they were not able to go to Tarshish.
