And Rachel saw that she was not bearing children to Jacob, and Rachel was envious of her sister and she said to Jacob, “Give to me sons, and if not, I will die.”

And the anger of Jacob burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?”

And she said, “Behold, my maidservant Bilhah; go in to her, and she will bear children on my knees, and I also shall be built up from her.”

And she gave to him Bilhah her maidservant for a wife, and Jacob went in to her.

And Bilhah conceived, and bore to Jacob a son.

And Rachel said, “God has judged me, and He has also heard my voice, and has given to me a son.” Upon thus she called his name Dan.

And Bilhah, the maidservant of Rachel, conceived again, and bore a second son to Jacob.

And Rachel said, “With wrestlings of God I have wrestled with my sister, and indeed I have prevailed.” And she called his name Naphtali.

And Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, and she took Zilpah her maidservant, and gave her to Jacob for a wife.
