1 And He began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard, and he placed around it a fence and dug a wine vat and built a tower, and he rented it out to farmers and traveled abroad. 2 And he sent a servant to the farmers in the season, so that he might receive from the farmers from the fruit of the vineyard. 3 And having taken him, they beat him and sent him away empty. 4 And again he sent to them another servant, and that one they struck on the head and dishonored him. 5 And he sent another, and that one they killed—and many others—indeed beating some and killing some. 6 Yet having one beloved son, he sent him to them last, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 7 But those farmers said to themselves, ‘This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8 And having taken him, they killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.
