Mark 9:1-37 ▼

1 And He was saying to them, “Truly I say to you? that there are some of those standing here who shall not taste of death until they shall see the kingdom of God having come in power.”

2 And after six days, Jesus takes along Peter and James and John, and He brings them up onto a high mountain by themselves alone. And He was transfigured before them,

3 and His garments became radiant, exceedingly white, such as no launderer on the earth is able thus to whiten them.

4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

5 And answering, Peter says to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. And let us make three tabernacles—one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

6 For he did not know what he should answer, for they were terrified.

7 And there was a cloud overshadowing them, and there was a voice out of the cloud: “This is My Son, the Beloved; listen to Him!”

8 And suddenly, having looked around, no longer did they see anyone but Jesus alone with themselves.

9 And in their coming down from the mountain, He instructed them that they should relate to no one what they saw, except when the Son of Man should rise out from the dead.

10 And they kept the word to themselves, discussing what it is to rise out from the dead.

11 And they were questioning Him, saying, “The scribes say that it is necessary for Elijah to come first.”

12 And He was saying to them, “Elijah indeed, having come first, restores all things. And how has it been written about the Son of Man that He should suffer many things and be set at nothing?

13 But I say to you? that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they were wanting, as it has been written of him.”

14 And having come to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes disputing with them.

15 And immediately all the crowd, having seen Him, were greatly amazed, and running to Him, they were greeting Him.

16 And He questioned them, “What are you? disputing with them?”

17 And one out of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought to You my son, having a mute spirit.

18 And wherever it might seize him, it throws him down, and he foams and gnashes his teeth and is withering away. And I spoke to Your disciples that they might cast it out, and they did not have the strength.”

19 And answering them, He says, “O unbelieving generation, until when will I be with you?? Until when will I bear with you?? Bring him to Me.”

20 And they brought him to Him, and having seen Him, the spirit immediately threw him into convulsions. And having fallen upon the ground, he was rolling around, foaming.

21 And He questioned his father, “How long a time is it that this has been with him?” And he said, “From childhood.”

22 And often it also cast him into the fire and into the waters, so that it might destroy him. But if You are able to do anything, help us, having compassion on us.”

23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If You are able’? All things are possible to the one believing!”

24 Immediately, having cried out, the father of the child was saying, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

25 And Jesus, having seen that a crowd is running together, rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and no more may you enter into him.”

26 And having cried out, and having thrown him into many convulsions, it came out. And he became as if dead, so as for many to say that he was dead.

27 But Jesus, having taken him by the hand, raised him up, and he arose.

28 And on His having entered into the house, His disciples were questioning Him by Himself, “Why were we not able to cast it out?”

29 And He said to them, “This kind is able to come out by nothing except by prayer.”

30 Having gone out from there, they were passing through Galilee. And He did not wish that anyone should know,

31 for He was teaching His disciples. And He was saying to them, “The Son of Man is delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and having been killed, after three days He will rise.”

32 But they were not understanding the saying, and they were afraid to question Him.

33 And they came to Capernaum. And being in the house, He was questioning them, “What were you? reasoning on the way?”

34 But they were silent, for they discussed with one another on the way who was greater.

35 And having sat down, He called the Twelve, and He says to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he will be last of all and servant of all.”

36 And having taken a little child, He set him in their midst. And having taken him in His arms, He said to them,

37 “Whoever shall receive one of such little children in My name receives Me; and whoever shall receive Me does not receive Me but the One having sent Me.”
