1 And when they drew near to Jerusalem, and had come to Bethphage, to the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them: Go into the village opposite to you, and immediately you will find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them to me. 3 And if any one say any thing to you, you shall reply: The Lord has need of them: and he will immediately send them. 4 All this was done, that the word might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 5 Say you to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king comes to you, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. 6 And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them; 7 and brought the ass and the colt, and put their mantles on them, and caused him to sit upon them. 8 And a very great multitude spread their mantles in the road: and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the road. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed after, cried, saying: Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Matthew 21:1-9, Anderson New Testament. Public domain.
