23 And to him, having come into the temple to him teaching, came the chief priests and elders of the people, saying, By what authority doest thou these? and who gave thee this authority? 24 And Jesus, having answered, said to them, I will also ask you one word, which if ye tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these. 25 The baptism of John, whence was it of heaven or of men And they reasoned by themselves, saying, If we say, of heaven; he will say to us, Why, then, believed ye him not? 26 But if we say, of men; we fear the crowd; for all hold John as a prophet. 27 And having answered Jesus, they said, We know not.
