2 Chr 31:6: Support God's work today?
How does 2 Chronicles 31:6 encourage us to support God's work today?

Setting the scene

Hezekiah’s reforms called Judah back to wholehearted worship. In response, “the men of Israel and Judah who lived in the cities of Judah…brought a tithe of cattle and sheep, and a tithe of the dedicated things consecrated to the LORD their God, and they laid them in heaps” (2 Chronicles 31:6). Those “heaps” tell a story of eager obedience and overflowing gratitude.

What we see in 2 Chronicles 31:6

• Obedience—The people honored the clear command to tithe (Leviticus 27:30).

• Unity—Both Israelite remnant and Judahites participated, showing corporate commitment.

• Abundance—Their giving produced visible “heaps,” demonstrating God-given prosperity and open-handed response.

• Trust—By releasing livestock and produce, families relied on the Lord for the coming seasons.

• Support for ministry—The tithe sustained priests and Levites so temple service could flourish (v. 4-10).

Principles we can apply today

• God’s work merits first-fruits, not leftovers (Proverbs 3:9).

• Generosity signals spiritual renewal—revived hearts always reopen wallets.

• Collective obedience multiplies impact; when every believer participates, provision abounds.

• Tangible giving demonstrates faith that God will continue to supply (Philippians 4:19).

• Visible generosity inspires others; “heaps” become testimonies of grace.

Practical ways to support God’s work now

• Regular tithes to your local church—the modern parallel to the temple ministry (1 Corinthians 9:13-14).

• Offerings above the tithe for missions, church planting, and mercy ministries.

• Time and skills—volunteer service that undergirds gospel outreach.

• Hospitality—opening your home or table to encourage believers and reach seekers.

• Legacy giving—estate plans that channel resources to kingdom purposes beyond your lifetime.

Promises and blessings linked to generosity

• “Bring the full tithe into the storehouse…Test Me in this…see if I will not open the windows of heaven” (Malachi 3:10).

• “Give, and it will be given to you…running over” (Luke 6:38).

• “God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that…you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:6-8).

Closing thoughts

Hezekiah’s generation piled up heaps because they believed God’s word and cherished His house. Their example calls us to the same joyful, visible, united generosity, ensuring that worship, witness, and compassion continue to flourish in our day.

In what ways can we emulate the Israelites' dedication in our church community?
