Align worship with God's will, not Ahab's?
How can we ensure our worship aligns with God's will, unlike Ahab's example?

Recognizing the Root Problem

1 Kings 22:53: “He served and worshiped Baal, and provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger, just as his father had done.”

• Ahab—and later his son—chose idolatry. The issue was not a lack of religious activity but worship directed at the wrong object.

• When worship drifts from the LORD to anything else, it ceases to please Him no matter how passionate or elaborate it looks.

Understanding True Worship

John 4:23-24: “...true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth….”

Deuteronomy 6:13: “Fear the LORD your God, serve Him only….”

Isaiah 29:13 warns against lips that honor God while hearts wander.

– Spirit: our inner being engaged.

– Truth: our worship anchored in God’s revealed Word, not personal preference or culture.

Guarding the Heart Against Idolatry

Proverbs 4:23: “Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life.”

1 John 5:21: “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”

– Examine affections regularly.

– Ask, “What captures my imagination, time, finances, and conversation?”

Filtering Our Worship Practices

Colossians 3:16-17 directs singing, teaching, and every deed “in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Hebrews 12:28-29: acceptable worship is offered “with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”

Checklist for every song, ritual, or ministry moment:

– Does it exalt the Triune God or spotlight people?

– Is it saturated with Scripture?

– Does it encourage holiness and gratitude?

Submitting to Godly Counsel

• Ahab ignored Micaiah’s warning (see 1 Kings 22:13-18) and died outside God’s will.

2 Timothy 3:16: Scripture is the final authority for correction.

– Welcome biblical correction from pastors and mature believers.

– Measure every new trend by the unchanging Word.

Rejecting Syncretism

Exodus 20:3: “You shall have no other gods before Me.”

• God tolerates no blending of His worship with cultural idols—whether prestige, entertainment, or self-promotion.

– Keep the altar pure; separate from practices rooted in false spirituality or superstition.

Daily Alignment Checklist

• Start each day in the Word—let truth shape desires before duties.

• Pray for a Spirit-led heart that treasures Christ above all.

• Sing and speak Scripture throughout the day (Colossians 3:16).

• Confess quickly when anything rivals God’s place.

• Gather with believers who prize biblical fidelity.

• End the day reviewing where God was honored—and where course corrections are needed.
