Apply David's service daily?
How can we apply David's example of service in our daily lives?

Seeing Service in a Sandwich Delivery

1 Samuel 17:18: “Also take along these ten cheeses to the commander of their unit. See how your brothers are doing and bring back a confirmation from them.”

What Jumps Out

• Obedience: David moves because his father says, not because he seeks applause.

• Humility: A future king carries bread and cheese. No task is beneath him.

• Other-mindedness: The errand exists for his brothers’ good, not David’s gain.

• Accountability: Jesse wants “confirmation”; David is trusted to report honestly.

• Promptness: v. 20 notes he rises “early in the morning.” He serves before the day’s glory unfolds.

Threads Woven Through the Word

Colossians 3:23 — “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord…”

Philippians 2:3-4 — “In humility consider others more important than yourselves.”

Mark 10:45 — Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve.”

1 Peter 4:10 — “Each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve others…”

Matthew 25:40 — Serving the least is serving the King.

Living the Lessons Daily

• Start with the small: look for “bread-and-cheese” opportunities—simple chores, unnoticed tasks.

• Say “yes” quickly: answer requests without dragging feet; set alarms early if needed.

• Serve unseen: do good where applause is unlikely—garbage duty, secret giving, quiet encouragement.

• Carry concern: check on a friend’s “welfare,” then report back accurately when entrusted with information.

• Keep motives pure: aim to please the Lord, not to pad a résumé.

• Stay ready: like David, faithfulness in menial service positions us for greater battles God may send.

Steps for This Week

1. List one mundane task at home, work, or church; do it gladly and on time.

2. Text or visit someone simply to ask, “How are you really doing?” and listen well.

3. Complete an assignment exactly as given, resisting shortcuts.

4. Before each task, whisper, “For You, Lord,” aligning heart with Colossians 3:23.
