How can we apply Jesus' example of calmness in crises to our lives? The Crisis in Jairus’ House While people were wailing in despair, Jesus arrived and “took her by the hand and called out, ‘Child, get up!’” (Luke 8:54). The girl literally rose from death—proof that He is Lord over every crisis. Jesus’ Unshakable Calm • He refused panic when told the child had died (v. 50). • He spoke faith-filled words—“Do not fear; only believe.” • He limited distracting voices, allowing only Peter, James, John, and the girl’s parents inside (v. 51). • He acted with gentle authority, simply taking her hand and commanding life. Why His Calm Is Rock-Solid • Complete trust in the Father’s power (John 5:19). • Perfect awareness of His mission and authority (Matthew 28:18). • Constant life of prayer (Mark 1:35). • Undivided compassion for people in need (Matthew 14:14). Translating His Example into Daily Life 1. Anchor your mind in God’s sovereignty. – “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) 2. Guard your environment. – Like Jesus sending out mourners, step away from voices that magnify fear. 3. Speak faith, not panic. – “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7) 4. Act decisively yet gently. – Small acts of obedience—making a call, offering help, praying aloud—mirror the hand-holding command of Jesus. 5. Stay prayer-ready. – “Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7) Promises That Steady the Heart • John 14:27 — His peace is unlike the world’s and drives out troubled hearts. • Isaiah 26:3 — Steadfast minds are kept in perfect peace. • Philippians 4:6-7 — Prayer and thanksgiving invite God’s guarding peace. Living It Out This Week • Begin each morning by declaring a verse above aloud. • Identify one fear-fueling input to remove and one faith-building input to add. • When crisis news arrives, pause before reacting; offer a brief prayer, then respond calmly. • End each day recalling one instance where you experienced His peace, thanking Him for it. Jesus’ calm was not merely an attitude; it was the overflow of perfect confidence in the Father. As His followers, that same peace is ours to walk in—right in the middle of every storm or sickroom. |
