How can believers apply Jesus' triumph in their daily spiritual battles? The Setting – The Throne Room Scene “Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep! Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed to open the scroll and its seven seals.’” (Revelation 5:5) John is crushed because no one seems worthy to break the seals that will bring God’s final purposes to completion. The elder’s announcement changes everything. The Lion-King has already conquered; the rest of the book unfolds His victory. That same triumph reaches into today’s skirmishes with sin, temptation, and demonic opposition. The Lion Has Triumphed – What His Victory Secured • He satisfied every requirement of God’s justice (Isaiah 53:5–6; Romans 3:25). • He disarmed “rulers and authorities” in the unseen realm (Colossians 2:15). • He seized the keys of death and Hades (Revelation 1:18). • He now reigns “far above all rule and authority” (Ephesians 1:20–22). Because the triumph is complete and literal, nothing remains for believers to add—only to apply. Why His Victory Matters in Daily Battles 1. Unshakable Position: “You are of God… and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). 2. Certain Outcome: “In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). 3. Accessible Power: “The surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe” (Ephesians 1:19). 4. Tested Shield: “Take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). His past victory guarantees our present protection. Ways to Walk in His Triumph • Remember the Victor’s Presence – Speak truth to your soul: “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (Psalm 27:1). – Cultivate continual fellowship; Christ is not distant during conflict. • Stand on the Finished Work – When condemnation whispers, answer with Romans 8:1. – When shame resurfaces, point to the cross where it was nailed (Colossians 2:14). • Wear the Full Armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) – Belt of truth: keep Scripture in plain view. – Breastplate of righteousness: rest in His imputed righteousness, not your performance. – Shield of faith: extinguish fiery lies before they ignite anxiety or compromise. – Sword of the Spirit: quote God’s Word aloud, as Jesus did (Matthew 4:4-10). • Resist and Rebuke – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). – Resistance is rooted in submission; authority flows from alignment with the Victor. • Declare the Blood and the Testimony – “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11). – Verbally thank Jesus for His shed blood; rehearse personal stories of His faithfulness. • Worship Instead of Worry – Revelation 5 erupts in praise because the Lamb is worthy. – Praise shifts focus from problem to Person, from fear to faith. • Persevere in Hope – Victory is certain, yet battles still rage. Hold fast like the saints in Hebrews 10:36. – Anticipate the day when the scroll’s final seal brings complete visible reign. Putting It All Together The Lion’s triumph recorded in Revelation 5:5 is not merely future; it is the believer’s present inheritance. Every skirmish is fought from a hill already won. By remembering who conquered, what He secured, and how He equips us, we step into each day’s conflict confident, armored, and expectant of fresh displays of His overcoming power. |
