Applying Leviticus 9:20 daily?
How can we apply the principles of Leviticus 9:20 in our daily lives?

Setting the Scene

“they placed the fat portions on the breasts, and Aaron burned the fat on the altar.” (Leviticus 9:20)

Unpacking the Picture

• In Israel’s sacrificial system, fat represented richness and the very best of the animal (cf. Leviticus 3:16).

• The breast would later become food for the priests (Leviticus 7:31).

• Aaron’s act showed exact obedience to God’s detailed instructions.

Principle 1: Give God the Best

• The fat—symbol of richness—went first to God.

• Our application:

– Honor the LORD with your first and finest (Proverbs 3:9).

– Budget time, energy, and resources so His portion is never an after-thought.

Principle 2: Worship in God’s Prescribed Way

• Aaron did “just as Moses commanded” (Leviticus 9:21).

• Our application:

– Submit worship styles, lifestyles, and decisions to Scripture’s authority.

– Remember, “to obey is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22).

Principle 3: Separation for Holiness

• Fat on the altar; breast for the priest—clear boundaries.

• Our application:

– Distinguish what is sacred (time in the Word, Lord’s Day gatherings, purity) from what is common (everyday routines).

– Guard sacred spaces from casual neglect (Hebrews 10:25).

Principle 4: Wholehearted Surrender

• The fire consumed the fat entirely—nothing held back.

• Our application:

– “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God” (Romans 12:1).

– Daily yield ambitions, relationships, and possessions for His glory.

Principle 5: Shared Provision

• God received the fat; the priests were nourished by the breast.

• Our application:

– Give generously so God’s servants and gospel work are supplied (Philippians 4:17-18).

– Recognize that when we honor God first, He still meets our needs (Matthew 6:33).

Living It Out This Week

• Set aside the first minutes of each day for Scripture before anything else.

• Re-examine spending: tithe or give a predetermined “first-fruits” percentage.

• Choose one area where personal preference in worship eclipses biblical direction; realign it.

• Identify a “holy space” in your schedule—guard it from intrusion.

• Write down one treasured possession or plan and consciously place it “on the altar” in prayerful surrender.

• Support a missionary or local ministry, reflecting the shared provision principle.

Encouragement to Persist

“For you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:20)

Keep bringing the best, following God’s pattern, and letting every area of life rise like a pleasing aroma to Him.
