How should believers respond when witnessing God's power in their lives today? The Scene in Joshua 10:11 “As they fled before Israel down the descent of Beth-horon, the LORD hurled large hailstones down on them from the heavens all the way to Azekah, and many more died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.” God literally rained hailstones out of the sky—supernatural intervention that decided the battle. When His power breaks in like that today, how do we answer? Marvel at His Majesty • Pause and let the wonder sink in. • Psalm 66:5—“Come and see the works of God; how awesome are His deeds toward mankind!” • Refuse to explain away the miracle; acknowledge it is the living God who acted. Respond with Immediate Worship • Like the healed Samaritan in Luke 17:15-16 who “returned, glorifying God with a loud voice,” fall at Jesus’ feet in gratitude. • Sing, speak, or simply whisper thanks—worship rises first before any analysis. Strengthen Faith for the Next Battle • 1 Samuel 17:37—David remembered past deliverance with the lion and bear before facing Goliath. • Keep a written record of God’s power moments; later, reread them when courage runs low. Tell the Story to Others • Psalm 145:4—“One generation shall declare Your works to the next.” • Share specific details, not vague impressions. The hailstones had size, weight, and a trajectory; so describe your own “hailstones” plainly. Live in Obedience that Mirrors Trust • John 14:21—“Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me.” • If God can hurl hail, He can also direct our daily choices. Align decisions with His revealed will. Guard Against Forgetfulness • Deuteronomy 8:11 warns, “Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God.” • Build reminders: calendar notes, family talks, church testimonies. Memory lapses dull awe. Pray with Greater Boldness • Acts 4:24-31—after witnessing a miracle, the church prayed for even more boldness and power, not less. • Because God acts, ask bigger things: salvation for hard-hearted friends, breakthroughs in unreached places. Rest in His Sovereignty • Psalm 46:10—“Be still, and know that I am God.” • The God who controls weather also controls timelines, outcomes, and unseen realms. Relaxed confidence replaces panic. Keep Perspective: The Power Points to the Person • Miracles are signs; signs direct attention. Don’t idolize the hailstones; exalt the Lord who sent them. • Revelation 4:11—“Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power.” Put It All Together When God’s power shows up—whether through healing, providence, protection, or an unmistakable “hailstone” moment—believers: 1. Marvel, worship, and thank Him. 2. Let faith grow for future battles. 3. Tell the story widely and accurately. 4. Obey with fresh seriousness. 5. Keep remembering, praying, and resting in His sovereign care. That’s the pattern Joshua’s generation modeled, and it still answers the question of faithful response today. |
