How can believers grow in faith?
How can believers ensure they progress "from strength to strength" in faith?

Opening the Passage

“Blessed are those whose strength is in You, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage… They go from strength to strength, until each appears before God in Zion.” Psalm 84:5–7

What “From Strength to Strength” Means

• God intends an ever-deepening, forward-moving walk, not a plateau

• Each season, trial, or victory is meant to add—not subtract—spiritual muscle

• The destination is “Zion,” life in God’s presence, so progress is measured by growing intimacy with Him

Roots of Continuous Growth

• A settled confidence that Scripture is true, authoritative, and sufficient

• A heart “set on pilgrimage” (v. 5)—deciding in advance there is no turning back

• Dependence on the Lord’s strength, never mere human resolve

Daily Practices That Build Momentum

• Immerse in the Word

1 Peter 2:2 “Like newborn infants, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”

– Schedule unhurried reading, memorization, and meditation

• Pray with expectancy

Isaiah 40:31 “Those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength.”

– Waiting is active trust, not passive delay

• Walk in obedience

Colossians 2:6–7 “Continue to walk in Him… established in the faith.”

– Obedience turns knowledge into spiritual stamina

• Worship through every terrain

Psalm 84 pilgrims turned the “Valley of Baca” (tears) into “springs” (v. 6)

– Praise redirects hardship into growth

Guardrails That Prevent Stagnation

• Reject self-reliance—Ephesians 6:10 “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.”

• Welcome testing—James 1:2-4 shows trials mature faith

• Stay in fellowship—Hebrews 10:24-25 urges believers to spur one another on

Encouragement from Related Passages

Proverbs 4:18 “The path of the righteous…shining brighter and brighter until midday.”

2 Corinthians 3:18 “We…are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory.”

Philippians 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will continue to perfect it.”

Living It Out

• Set your heart afresh on the lifelong pilgrimage toward God’s presence

• Rely on divine strength to convert every valley into a spring

• Expect the Spirit to keep you moving—step by step, strength to strength—until you stand before the Lord in Zion

Connect Psalm 84:7 with Philippians 4:13 on finding strength in God.
