How can we coexist with Him here?
In what ways can we "live together with Him" in our community?

Grounded in the Finished Work of Christ

“Christ died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with Him.” (1 Thessalonians 5:10)

• Our shared life begins at the cross and the empty tomb.

• Because He died and rose, His life is now our life (Colossians 3:3–4).

• We approach every relationship and responsibility in community as people already united to Him.

Walking in the Light Side-by-Side

• Verses 5–8 remind us we are “sons of light and sons of the day.”

• Living together with Him means:

– Choosing transparency over secrecy.

– Rejecting the cultural darkness of gossip, impurity, and cynicism (Ephesians 5:8–11).

– Holding one another accountable in gentleness (Galatians 6:1).

Building One Another Up Daily

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Practical ways:

• Speak words that give grace, not decay (Ephesians 4:29).

• Notice growth in others and say it aloud.

• Share testimonies of God’s faithfulness to spark hope.

Practicing Sacrificial Love

• Jesus: “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

• Concrete acts:

– Deliver meals, run errands, or babysit for families in need.

– Pool resources to assist members facing financial crisis (Acts 2:44–45).

– Celebrate milestones; mourn losses together (Romans 12:15).

Guarding Peace and Unity

• “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:3)

• Refuse to let minor preferences divide.

• Address conflict quickly, face-to-face, with humility (Matthew 18:15).

• Extend forgiveness as freely as we have received it (Colossians 3:13).

Gathering for Worship and Word

• “Do not neglect meeting together…but encourage one another.” (Hebrews 10:25)

• Corporate worship tunes our hearts to His.

• Singing, Scripture reading, and teaching saturate the community with truth (Colossians 3:16).

Serving Together on Mission

• “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19)

• Local applications:

– Neighborhood evangelism events.

– Partnerships with crisis-pregnancy centers, food banks, or prison ministries.

– Short-term mission trips that unite the body in prayer and purpose.

Living with Alert Expectation

1 Thessalonians 5:2 reminds us the Day of the Lord comes “like a thief in the night.”

• Living together with Him means we:

– Stay sober-minded, wearing faith, love, and hope as armor (v. 8).

– Encourage each other to invest in eternal priorities.

– Comfort grieving hearts with the certainty of resurrection (1 Thessalonians 4:14).

Cultivating a Rhythm of Prayer and Gratitude

• “Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in every circumstance.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18)

• Community practices:

– Set up prayer partners or small prayer clusters.

– Begin gatherings with testimonies of answered prayer.

– Keep a shared gratitude journal.

Conclusion: A Foretaste of Eternal Fellowship

When we walk in light, encourage daily, love sacrificially, guard unity, worship faithfully, serve on mission, watch expectantly, and pray continually, our community becomes a living preview of the day we will “always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)

How can we comfort others with the hope found in this verse?
