How can we create good daily?
In what ways can we actively "devise good" in our daily lives?

The Verse in Focus

Proverbs 14:22: “Will not those who devise evil go astray? But those who plan good find loving devotion and faithfulness.”

“Devise” Isn’t Passive

- The Hebrew chashab means to weave, design, or plot. Scripture urges us to give that level of forethought to blessing others.

- Isaiah 32:8—“But a noble man makes noble plans; he stands on noble ways.”

Why Planning Good Matters

- Without intentionality, the heart drifts to self-interest (Jeremiah 17:9).

- Planning good mirrors God’s character (James 1:17) and shines His light before people (Matthew 5:16).

Practical Ways to Actively Devise Good

Start with the Heart

• Each morning ask the Lord for specific people to bless, then jot their names.

• Keep a “goodness list” on your phone for ideas the Spirit prompts.

In the Home

• Slip an encouraging note into a child’s backpack.

• Cook an extra meal in anticipation of a neighbor or church member in need.

At Work or School

• Offer help before deadlines overwhelm coworkers.

• Budget a small “generosity fund” for surprise lunches or supplies.

• Speak life-giving words in meetings (Ephesians 4:29).

In the Local Church

• Pray through the directory; call one person weekly.

• Arrive early to greet newcomers—planned hospitality (Romans 12:13).

• Volunteer for unseen tasks that free others to serve.

In the Community

• Map your street; schedule coffee drop-ins or yard-help days.

• Keep care bags in your car for the homeless.

• Sign up to serve, not just attend, neighborhood events.

Online

• Pre-write gracious gospel responses to hot-button topics (Colossians 4:6).

• Set reminders to send Scripture encouragements.

Guardrails Against Wrong Motives

- Check the heart: is this for personal glory? (Matthew 6:1-4)

- Reject shortcuts that compromise righteousness (Proverbs 21:3).

- Invite accountability; spur one another on (Hebrews 10:24-25).

Tools for Staying Intentional

• Planner or app to log acts of kindness.

• Verse cards: Proverbs 3:27; Galatians 6:9-10; James 4:17.

• Weekly “goodness audit”: where did God open doors, what’s next?

The Promise Attached

“Those who plan good find loving devotion and faithfulness.”

• Loving devotion—God’s covenant kindness meets planners of good.

• Faithfulness—He entrusts more to those proven reliable (Luke 16:10).

Devise good on purpose, and His steadfast love will greet you every step of the way.
