How can we help kids in our community?
In what ways can we support "little ones" in our community today?

Setting the Scene

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)

Who Are the “Little Ones”?

• Children—young in age and dependent on adult care (Mark 10:14).

• New or vulnerable believers—those just beginning to follow Christ (Matthew 18:6).

• The overlooked and powerless—anyone society tends to ignore (Psalm 82:3).

What Jesus Makes Clear

• Every act of kindness counts. A literal cup of water matters to Him.

• Motive matters: service offered “because he is My disciple.”

• God personally notices and rewards care for the weak (Hebrews 6:10).

Practical Ways to Support Little Ones Today

Physical care

• Keep a stash of snacks, bottled water, or diapers at church for families in need.

• Offer rides to school events, medical appointments, or youth group.

• Volunteer for nursery duty so parents can worship distraction-free.

Emotional care

• Learn children’s names; greet them warmly each week (Proverbs 16:24).

• Pair new believers with mature mentors who can listen and guide.

• Host game nights or sports clinics that provide safe, encouraging fun.

Spiritual care

• Teach Scripture faithfully in age-appropriate classes (Deuteronomy 6:6-7).

• Give a Bible or devotional to every new Christian.

• Invite children and young believers to serve alongside adults—ushering, music, outreach—so they taste ministry early (1 Peter 4:10).

Protection and advocacy

• Implement thorough child-safety policies; background-check volunteers (Mark 9:42).

• Speak up when a child or vulnerable adult is mistreated (Isaiah 1:17).

• Support foster and adoption families; contribute meals, babysitting, or finances (James 1:27).

Why This Matters

• Loving the least reflects God’s own heart (Psalm 68:5).

• It strengthens the church’s future; young disciples grow into mature leaders (Proverbs 22:6).

• Jesus promises an eternal reward for even the smallest service rendered in His name (Matthew 10:42).

Living It Out This Week

Choose one tangible step—stock the church pantry, sign up to mentor, or sponsor a local foster family—and follow through. Small, faithful deeds echo Christ’s love and fulfill His call to guard and nurture His precious “little ones.”

How does Matthew 10:42 connect with Proverbs 19:17 on generosity?
