How can we seek Jesus' help today?
In what ways can we seek Jesus' help in overcoming personal struggles today?

Setting the Scene—Luke 8:27

“When Jesus stepped ashore, He was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothing or lived in a house, but he had lived in the tombs.”

Jesus meets a man trapped in spiritual bondage and immediately demonstrates His power to set captives free. The Lord who rescued that man still helps us confront and overcome our own struggles—whether sin, fear, addiction, anxiety, or oppression.

Recognize the Presence and Authority of Jesus

• Jesus steps ashore; the struggle is now face-to-face with the Savior.

John 8:36—“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

• Acknowledge that the Lord has absolute authority over every chain that binds us.

Bring the Struggle Into His Light

• The demoniac could not hide; neither should we.

Hebrews 4:15-16—His throne is a place to “receive mercy and find grace to help.”

Psalm 34:17-18—He hears the cry of the brokenhearted.

Practical steps:

– Name the struggle honestly in prayer.

– Read related passages aloud, allowing Scripture to diagnose the heart.

– Invite a trusted believer to stand with you in confession (James 5:16).

Submit and Resist

James 4:7-8—“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

• The demoniac bowed before Jesus; submission precedes deliverance.

• Resisting involves renouncing any known foothold—patterns, influences, or relationships that feed the struggle.

Daily habits:

– Begin the day yielding your mind and body to Christ (Romans 12:1-2).

– Use Scripture memorization as a weapon (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

– Replace tempting environments with Christ-centered ones—worship, fellowship, service.

Embrace His Restorative Power

Luke 8:35 shows the man “clothed and in his right mind.”

Matthew 11:28-30—Jesus offers rest for weary souls.

1 Peter 5:10—He Himself will “restore, secure, strengthen, and establish you.”

Watch for His restoring work in:

– Thought life: new peace replacing torment.

– Identity: seeing yourself as a child of God, not the sum of failures.

– Purpose: moving from isolation to meaningful service.

Guard the Freedom Christ Gives

• After deliverance, Jesus sends the man home to testify (Luke 8:38-39).

• Testimony reinforces freedom and encourages others.

Ways to guard:

– Stay anchored in Scripture and prayer.

– Remain accountable to mature believers.

– Serve actively; idle hands invite old habits (Galatians 5:13).

Live Expectantly—Help Is Ongoing

• Personal struggles may resurface, but His help is continual.

Philippians 1:6—He who began a good work will carry it on to completion.

• Return to His presence quickly whenever new battles arise.

In every struggle—great or small—come ashore with Jesus, confess openly, submit fully, resist steadfastly, receive His restoring touch, and walk in the freedom He alone provides.
