How can we show God's compassion?
In what ways can we show compassion to others as God does?

Psalm 106:46—A Window into Divine Compassion

“He made them objects of compassion to all who held them captive.”

• God’s mercy moved pagan captors to soften toward Israel.

• His compassion is active, intervening, and contagious; it reaches people who would not normally care.

Compassion Is God’s Constant Character

• “The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion.” (Psalm 103:8)

• “Because of the LORD’s loving devotion we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.” (Lamentations 3:22)

• “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)

God’s own nature sets the pattern we imitate.

Ways We Reflect God’s Compassion

• Extend kindness deliberately

– “Be kind and tenderhearted to one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)

• Enter another’s pain

– “Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” (Romans 12:15)

• Meet practical needs

– Feed, clothe, visit, welcome (Matthew 25:35-36).

• Offer forgiveness quickly

– “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” (Colossians 3:13)

• Advocate for the vulnerable

– “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” (Proverbs 31:8)

• Pray for those who oppose us

– “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)

• Share the hope of the gospel

– True compassion longs for eternal rescue as well as temporal relief.

Practical Steps for This Week

• Identify one person in hardship; schedule time to listen without distraction.

• Carry gift cards, snacks, or care packs to hand out when a need arises.

• Set aside a small portion of each paycheck for benevolence giving.

• Write a note of encouragement to someone who feels forgotten.

• Volunteer a couple of hours with a local ministry serving refugees, prisoners, or the homeless.

• Intercede daily for someone who has wronged you, asking God to soften both hearts.

Encouragement to Persevere

Compassion is not a one-time gesture; it is a lifestyle that mirrors God’s own relentless mercy. As He once moved the hearts of Israel’s captors, He can work through every act of kindness you choose today.
