How can we support church leaders?
In what ways can we support our church leaders like Jehoiada supported David?

Scripture Snapshot

“Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were 3,700.” (1 Chronicles 12:27)

Jehoiada’s Pattern of Support

• Spiritual leadership: as a priest, he brought godly authority alongside David’s kingship.

• Visible loyalty: he arrived publicly, identifying himself—and 3,700 others—with David’s cause.

• Organized resources: trained men, unified purpose, readiness to act.

• Steadfast commitment: he remained allied to David through transition, not only in a crisis moment.

Practical Ways to Stand With Church Leaders Today

• Present, loyal partnership

– Show up consistently, affirm their God-given role (Hebrews 13:17).

– Speak well of them in public and private, shutting down gossip (Titus 3:10).

• Unceasing intercession

– Schedule regular prayer for your leaders and their families (Ephesians 6:18–19).

– Fast together when crucial decisions loom (Acts 13:2–3).

• Skilled, voluntary service

– Offer professional abilities—administration, tech, counseling, music, maintenance.

– Lead teams that free pastors to focus on Word and prayer (Acts 6:3–4).

• Material and financial generosity

– Give faithfully and cheerfully; honor those who labor in preaching and teaching (1 Timothy 5:17-18).

– Provide extras that refresh them: conference fees, sabbatical funds, family getaways.

• Unity guardianship

– Promote peace across generations, cultures, and ministries (Ephesians 4:3).

– Mediate disputes quickly; refuse factionalism (1 Corinthians 1:10).

• Doctrinal reinforcement

– Study Scripture diligently; champion sound teaching in small groups (2 Timothy 1:13-14).

– Alert leaders when false doctrine attempts entry (Acts 20:29-31).

• Encouragement and emotional care

– Send texts, cards, or calls that highlight specific blessings you receive from their ministry (2 Timothy 1:16-17).

– Celebrate milestones: ministry anniversaries, baptisms, building dedications.

• Practical protection from burnout

– Insist they take days off, vacations, and sabbaticals.

– Share preaching and teaching loads; invite guest speakers.

Biblical Echoes of Support

• Aaron and Hur steadying Moses’ hands (Exodus 17:12).

• The Philippian church partnering financially with Paul (Philippians 1:3-5; 4:15-17).

• The Macedonians first giving themselves to the Lord, then to leaders (2 Corinthians 8:1-5).

• Onesiphorus refreshing Paul and “not being ashamed” of his chains (2 Timothy 1:16-18).

Taking the Next Step Together

Follow Jehoiada’s lead: align publicly with your pastors, pray fervently, supply manpower and resources, guard unity, uphold truth, and keep their hands lifted until the work is finished.
