How can we uphold God's laws today?
In what ways can we ensure we are not rejecting God's laws today?

Grasping the Heart of Amos 2:5

“So I will send fire upon Judah, and it will consume the citadels of Jerusalem.”

Judah had God’s Word, yet treated it lightly. The judgment promised here was both literal—Babylon’s later invasion—and illustrative for us: ignoring divine commands always invites real consequences.

Recognizing Modern Forms of Rejecting God’s Law

• Cultural editing – accepting verses that fit current trends and dismissing the rest

• Private morality – assuming God cares only about “heart intentions,” not concrete choices

• Spiritual indifference – hearing sermons or podcasts without intending to obey (James 1:22)

• Intellectual skepticism – questioning the reliability of Scripture despite Jesus’ own endorsement (John 10:35)

Safeguards for Faithfulness

• Daily immersion in Scripture

– “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

– Read widely; meditate slowly; let the text set the agenda.

• Internalizing truth

– “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:11)

– Memorize key passages; rehearse them during ordinary tasks.

• Loving obedience

– “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)

– View commands as gifts from a Father who knows best, not burdens to avoid.

• Community accountability

– Meet with believers who will ask how the Word is shaping decisions, not just feelings (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Whole-Bible confidence

– “All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction…” (2 Timothy 3:16)

– Trust that every passage—history, prophecy, poetry, gospel—speaks with divine authority.

• Passing it on

– “These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts.” (Deuteronomy 6:6)

– Teach children, friends, and new believers what obedience looks like in daily life.

Walking It Out Together

Guarding against Judah’s mistake means treating God’s Word as non-negotiable truth, anchoring every decision, relationship, and ambition. As we read, store, and live Scripture, we choose the path of blessing instead of the fire of regret.
