How can we use Jesus' resourcefulness?
In what ways can we apply Jesus' example of resourcefulness in our community?

A Snapshot of the Scene

Jesus looked at a hungry crowd and asked, “How many loaves do you have?” (Matthew 15:34). Seven loaves and a few small fish seemed insignificant, yet He used them to feed four thousand men, plus women and children.

What Jesus Modeled

• Awareness of real, physical need

• Invitation for His followers to assess existing resources

• Willingness to work with “ordinary” provisions

• Thanksgiving before distribution (v. 36)

• Trust that the Father multiplies what is surrendered

• Organization—He directed the crowd to sit, then involved the disciples in distribution (v. 35, 36)

• Collection of leftovers, underscoring stewardship (v. 37)

Principles to Carry into Our Community

• Start with what is on hand. Take inventory—time, skills, finances, space, relationships.

• Offer it to the Lord first. Gratitude acknowledges His ownership and releases multiplication.

• Expect God to stretch humble offerings. Philippians 4:19: “My God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

• Engage others; resourcefulness thrives in cooperation. Galatians 6:2 calls us to “carry one another’s burdens.”

• Steward after the blessing. Leftovers matter: avoid waste, track impact, reinvest in future service.

Practices for Households and Congregations

• Community pantry: gather surplus canned goods and garden produce; pray over donations before distribution.

• Skill-share network: match retired tradespeople with young families needing repairs; both sides keep a record of God’s provision.

• Hospitality rotation: invite neighbors for simple meals; seven loaves can look like a crock-pot of soup.

• Budget tithe challenge: dedicate first 10 percent to mercy projects, then watch unexpected resources appear.

• Youth “loaves and fish” project: give each teen a small sum to multiply for missions; report testimonies of creativity and faith.

Encouraging Scriptures to Fuel Faith

2 Kings 4:2 – 6—Elisha asks, “What do you have?” and the widow’s oil multiplies.

Luke 16:10—“Whoever is faithful with very little will also be faithful with much.”

John 6:9—A boy’s five loaves and two fish supply a multitude.

1 Peter 4:10—“Use whatever gift you have received to serve others.”

Proverbs 11:25—“A generous soul will prosper.”

A Closing Charge

Inventory what God has already placed in your hands, lift it to Him with thanks, involve others, and watch the seven loaves in your life become a feast for the community.
