How do pillars show God's strength?
How do these pillars symbolize God's strength and establishment in our lives?

Setting the Scene: Solomon’s Twin Pillars

“He erected the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south and the other on the north. The one on the south he named Jakin and the one on the north Boaz.” (2 Chronicles 3:17)

What the Names Tell Us

• Jakin means “He establishes.”

• Boaz means “In Him is strength.”

Together, the very entrance of God’s house announced, “The LORD establishes, and the LORD empowers.”

Layers of Symbolism for Daily Life

• Unmovable foundation – The pillars didn’t support the roof; they stood as independent monuments, reminding worshipers that God’s strength doesn’t rely on human structures (Psalm 18:2).

• Gateway to God’s presence – Before anyone stepped inside, they passed between vivid symbols of divine stability. In the same way, Christ is the “door” (John 10:9), and through Him we enter a life anchored by God’s power.

• Twofold assurance – Strength (Boaz) and establishment (Jakin) cover both crisis and everyday growth (1 Peter 5:10).

Tracing the Theme through Scripture

Psalm 93:1 – “The LORD reigns, He is robed in majesty… the world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.”

Isaiah 41:10 – “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Ephesians 2:20–22 – Built on the apostles and prophets, with Christ Himself as the cornerstone, we “are being built together into a dwelling place for God.”

Colossians 2:6–7 – “So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith…”

Living It Out: Strength and Establishment Today

1. Rest in God’s unchanging nature.

• Circumstances shift, but the One who set those pillars still says, “I, the LORD, do not change” (Malachi 3:6).

2. Stand on His promises.

• Like pillars, His words hold firm; claim passages such as 2 Thessalonians 3:3—“The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.”

3. Walk between Jakin and Boaz daily.

• Start each day acknowledging, “Father, You establish my steps and You empower my actions.”

4. Build with dependable materials.

1 Corinthians 3:12–14 calls believers to use gold, silver, and costly stones—truths and works that last—so our lives reflect the permanence of those temple pillars.

Encouragement for the Journey

Whenever insecurity or weakness threatens, picture those towering bronze columns. Hear their silent witness: “God has planted you where you are, and His strength will hold you fast.”
