How does God's purpose guide us today?
How does understanding God's "purpose" influence our actions and decisions today?

God’s Prepared Purpose

“ And God has prepared us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a pledge of what is to come.” (2 Corinthians 5:5)

•The “very purpose” is our future, eternal, resurrected life with Christ.

•The Holy Spirit’s indwelling is God’s guarantee, proving His intent and enabling us to live toward that destiny now.

Purpose That Shapes Identity

•We are “new creations” (2 Corinthians 5:17), already counted citizens of heaven.

•Knowing this, we reject any identity rooted merely in culture, success, or failure.

•Our value is fixed by God’s plan, not by shifting human standards.

Purpose That Directs Daily Choices

•God’s purpose produces good works prepared “beforehand” (Ephesians 2:10).

•Every decision becomes an opportunity to walk in those works:

–Integrity in speech and business because we serve a truthful God.

–Generosity with time and resources because God’s kingdom outlasts earthly wealth.

–Pursuit of reconciliation, reflecting the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18).

–Evangelism, seeing others in light of eternity rather than earthly labels.

Purpose That Fuels Confidence and Courage

•“Many plans are in a man’s heart, but the purpose of the LORD will prevail.” (Proverbs 19:21)

•Because God’s purpose prevails, we can:

–Act boldly, freed from paralyzing fear of outcomes.

–Accept suffering as momentary, achieving “an eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17).

–Trust that “all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28) even when we cannot see how.

Purpose Clarified by the Whole Counsel of Scripture

•Phil 2:13 — God works in us “to will and to act on behalf of His good pleasure.”

•Rom 12:1-2 — Surrendered bodies and renewed minds discern “the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”

•2 Cor 5:7 — We “walk by faith, not by sight,” confident His purpose outlives temporary circumstances.

Practical Ways to Walk in God’s Purpose Today

•Start each morning by affirming: “I live for God’s eternal purpose through the Spirit’s power.”

•Measure plans by eternity: Will this choice reflect Christ and advance His kingdom?

•Invite the Spirit’s guidance before major decisions, trusting His pledge.

•Keep Scripture before you—memorize key verses that declare God’s purpose.

•Serve actively in the local church; God prepared communal, not isolated, good works.

•End the day recounting ways God’s purpose shaped actions, thanking Him for both progress and correction.
