How can we apply "teach them the way" in our daily lives? The Heart of the Command “Teach them the statutes and laws, and show them the way to live and the work they must do.” (Exodus 18:20) Why This Still Matters Today God’s charge to Moses was not a temporary administrative tip; it was a timeless pattern for discipling every generation: • Pass on God’s Word accurately. • Demonstrate a godly lifestyle (“the way to live”). • Equip people for meaningful service (“the work they must do”). Living It Out at Home • Daily Scripture moments – Read aloud at breakfast or before bed (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). – Memorize one verse a week together. • Visible reminders – Place verses on mirrors, screensavers, dashboards. • Ordinary-life conversations – Tie biblical principles to chores, finances, media choices (Proverbs 22:6). Modeling “the Way” • Consistent obedience even when unseen (Colossians 3:23-24). • Quick confession and repentance when we fail (1 John 1:9). • Serving others joyfully so family and friends see faith in action (Matthew 5:16). Teaching Beyond the Home • Mentor one younger believer—share meals, study together (2 Timothy 2:2). • Volunteer in church classes or youth groups—pass on truth systematically (Ephesians 4:11-12). • Integrate Scripture at work—ethical decisions, gracious speech (Colossians 4:5-6). Tools God Has Already Provided • The Word: “All Scripture is God-breathed…so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) • The Spirit: “He will guide you into all truth.” (John 16:13) • The Church: “Let the word of Christ richly dwell among you, teaching and admonishing one another.” (Colossians 3:16). Practical Weekly Rhythm Monday – Read Exodus 18:20; outline what to teach this week. Tuesday – Apply one command personally. Wednesday – Share a testimony of that obedience with someone. Thursday – Serve together in a tangible way. Friday – Review memory verse; celebrate progress. Weekend – Gather with believers; reinforce lessons corporately (Hebrews 10:24-25). Encouragement to Persevere Teaching is more marathon than sprint. “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9) Every ordinary moment is a God-given classroom. Keep opening the Book, walking the walk, and inviting others to follow the same well-marked path. |
