How to be open to God's revelations?
What steps can we take to be more receptive to God's revelations today?

Setting the Scene: Daniel 10:7

“Only I, Daniel, saw the vision; the men with me did not see it; but a great terror fell upon them, so they fled and hid themselves.”

Daniel’s companions were physically present, yet only Daniel actually perceived the heavenly revelation. What set him apart provides a pattern for anyone who longs to hear clearly from God today.

Step 1: Cultivate a Heart of Humility

• God draws near to the lowly. “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

• Daniel repeatedly acknowledged his own unworthiness (Daniel 9:4–6).

• Practical response: confess sin quickly, credit God for every success, and approach Scripture as a listener rather than an evaluator.

Step 2: Pursue Personal Holiness

• “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” (Matthew 5:8)

• Daniel resolved “not to defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).

• Guard eyes, thoughts, and habits; break with anything that dulls spiritual appetite (1 Peter 1:15-16).

Step 3: Engage in Fervent, Persistent Prayer

• Daniel prayed three times a day, even under threat (Daniel 6:10).

• Jesus promises deeper revelation to those who keep praying (Luke 11:9-13).

• Set regular, unhurried prayer blocks; include praise, confession, petition, and listening silence.

Step 4: Embrace Fasting and Self-Denial

• Daniel’s three-week fast (Daniel 10:2-3) preceded the vision.

• Fasting subdues the flesh and heightens spiritual sensitivity (Acts 13:2).

• Choose a food, media, or activity fast; use the freed-up time for Scripture and prayer.

Step 5: Saturate Your Mind with Scripture

• God’s primary channel of revelation is His written Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

• Daniel understood Jeremiah’s prophecy because he was reading it (Daniel 9:2).

• Read broadly, meditate deeply, memorize key verses; ask the Spirit to apply truth personally (John 16:13).

Step 6: Maintain Sensitivity Amid Distraction

• Daniel’s companions felt terror and ran; their fear drowned out perception (Daniel 10:7).

• Modern equivalents: noise, busyness, constant media.

• Build rhythms of solitude (Mark 1:35), silence the phone, and practice attentive stillness (Psalm 46:10).

Step 7: Walk in Obedient Faith

• Revelation is given to be obeyed. “Whoever has My commandments and keeps them … I will love him and reveal Myself to him.” (John 14:21)

• Daniel acted on every word God gave, from interpreting dreams to standing before kings.

• Apply truth promptly; obedience enlarges capacity to receive more light.

Step 8: Seek the Fellowship of the Spirit and the Body

• “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit” (Ephesians 4:30). Sin, bitterness, or broken relationships muffle His voice.

• Daniel belonged to a band of faithful friends (Daniel 2:17-18).

• Stay in step with the Spirit (Galatians 5:25) and surround yourself with believers who encourage godliness and discernment.

Putting It All Together

Humility opens the door, holiness keeps it clean, prayer and fasting tune the ear, Scripture fills the mind, solitude sharpens focus, obedience proves sincerity, and Spirit-led fellowship sustains the journey. Follow Daniel’s pattern, and God delights to make His voice unmistakably clear.
