How to boost faith against challenges?
How can we strengthen our faith to overcome spiritual challenges today?

A Moment of Powerlessness—Luke 9:40

“ ‘I begged Your disciples to drive it out, but they could not.’ ” (Luke 9:40)

Where the Disciples Fell Short

- They had previously received authority (Luke 9:1–2) yet failed in this instance.

- Jesus identifies the root in the next verse: unbelief and twisted thinking (Luke 9:41).

- Their struggle mirrors ours: spiritual challenges expose any weakness in faith, prayer, and reliance on Christ.

Faith Builders for Today’s Challenges

• Immerse Yourself in the Word

– “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)

– Daily reading, memorizing, and meditating on Scripture rewires our thinking to align with God’s truth.

• Practice Persistent Prayer and Fasting

– Jesus explains that some victories come only “by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29).

– Schedule regular times of focused intercession; set aside seasons to fast so your dependence shifts from self to God.

• Obey Promptly and Completely

– Faith grows when exercised (James 2:17).

– Each act of obedience—whether forgiving, giving, or witnessing—becomes a stepping-stone to greater confidence in God.

• Put On the Full Armor of God

– “Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power…take up the full armor of God.” (Ephesians 6:10–18)

– Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word, and prayer guard us against spiritual assaults.

• Stay in Faith-Filled Fellowship

– “Encourage one another daily…so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” (Hebrews 3:13)

– Worship, small groups, and mentoring relationships keep our resolve strong and our perspective clear.

• Remember Past Deliverances

– David’s courage before Goliath rested on God’s earlier rescues (1 Samuel 17:37).

– Keep a journal of answered prayers; revisit it when new challenges arise.

Encouraging Snapshots from Scripture

Matthew 17:19–20—Mustard-seed faith moves mountains; the issue isn’t size but genuine trust.

Mark 9:24—“I believe; help my unbelief!” Honest cries invite divine help.

Luke 17:5—The apostles asked, “Increase our faith!” Jesus responds by pointing to active, obedient faith.

Hebrews 11:6—“Without faith it is impossible to please God,” yet every example in the chapter shows God rewarding those who rely on Him.

Living out Strengthened Faith

- Start each day with Scripture before screens.

- Set phone alarms as prayer prompts.

- Serve in a ministry that stretches you.

- Share testimonies regularly; faith is contagious.

By choosing these rhythms, we move from the disciples’ “could not” to Christ’s assured “all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23).
