How to boost faith despite opposition?
What strategies can we use to strengthen our faith amidst opposition?

Facing Opposition in Iconium—Acts 14:2

“ But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.”

Seeing Opposition Through Scriptural Eyes

• Opposition is real and often intentional

• Recognize the spiritual dimension: Ephesians 6:12—“our struggle is not against flesh and blood”

• Expect hostility: 2 Timothy 3:12—“all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”

Drawing Strength from the Word

• Immerse yourself in daily reading; Scripture clarifies truth when minds are “poisoned” by lies

Psalm 119:11—“I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You”

• Memorize key promises (e.g., Isaiah 41:10, Romans 8:31–39)

Persevering in Bold Obedience

Acts 14:3 follows the hostility with courage: “So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord”

• Boldness increases as we obey; Acts 4:29–31 shows prayer leading to Spirit-filled courage

• Measure success by faithfulness, not popularity

Leaning on Godly Community

• “Brothers” (Acts 14:2) reminds us we stand together

Hebrews 10:24–25—spur one another on, meet together, encourage

• Share testimonies of God’s faithfulness; mutual support counters isolation

Engaging in Persistent Prayer

• Prayer aligns our hearts with God’s purposes and disarms fear

Philippians 4:6–7—present requests, receive peace that guards heart and mind

• Pray for opponents (Matthew 5:44) and for endurance (Colossians 1:11)

Keeping the Eternal Perspective

James 1:2–4—trials produce perseverance and mature faith

1 Peter 4:12–13—rejoice in sharing Christ’s sufferings, knowing glory is coming

• Fix eyes on unseen realities (2 Corinthians 4:17–18)

Arming Ourselves with the Full Armor

Ephesians 6:10–18 lists truth, righteousness, gospel readiness, faith, salvation, Word, and prayer

• Each piece counters a specific tactic of opposition—from deception to intimidation

• Put it on “so that you will be able to stand your ground” (v. 13)

Living the Lesson

• Expect resistance but refuse retreat

• Anchor every response in Scripture

• Speak truth boldly, love relentlessly, pray continually, stand together—God’s grace proves sufficient
