How to emulate Jesus' humility?
In what ways can we practice humility as Jesus exemplified?

Christ’s Call to Humility (Matthew 23:12)

“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

Jesus sets an unchanging standard: genuine greatness is measured by humility, not self-promotion.

Why Humility Matters to God

- It reflects His own character (Philippians 2:6-8).

- It invites grace: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6)

- It protects fellowship and unity in the body (Ephesians 4:2-3).

Practical Ways to Practice Humility

• Serve unnoticed

– Follow Jesus washing the disciples’ feet (John 13:14-15).

– Look for tasks no one volunteers for and do them cheerfully.

• Prefer others’ honor

– “In humility consider others more important than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)

– Publicly highlight others’ contributions instead of your own.

• Submit to Scripture first

– Let the Word correct you—no excuses, no edits (Psalm 139:23-24).

– Align every opinion with clear biblical teaching, even when costly.

• Welcome correction

– “Let the righteous strike me—it is kindness.” (Psalm 141:5)

– Thank those who point out blind spots; ask God to grow you through it.

• Speak modestly

– Avoid exaggeration and self-praise (Proverbs 27:2).

– Keep social media posts Christ-centered, not self-centered.

• Practice secret generosity

– “Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” (Matthew 6:3)

– Give quietly, trusting God to see and reward.

• Cultivate a thankful spirit

– Gratitude shifts focus from self to God’s provision (Colossians 3:15-17).

– Begin and end each day listing specific mercies received.

Jesus’ Own Model to Imitate

- Birth in a manger—choosing obscurity (Luke 2:7).

- Obedience in Nazareth—submitting to earthly parents (Luke 2:51).

- Baptism—identifying with sinners though sinless (Matthew 3:13-17).

- Silent endurance—no defense at His unjust trial (Isaiah 53:7; Matthew 26:62-63).

- Cross—laying down His life for enemies (Romans 5:8).

Guardrails Against Pride

• Daily self-examination before the Lord (Lamentations 3:40).

• Regular fasting to remember dependence (Matthew 6:16-18).

• Fellowship with humble believers; pride spreads quickly (Proverbs 13:20).

The Promise of Exaltation

Humility is never a dead end. God Himself lifts the lowly “at the proper time” (1 Peter 5:6). Live low so He may raise you high—now or in glory, according to His perfect wisdom.
