How to engage with leaders like Jesus?
In what ways can we engage with spiritual leaders as Jesus did?

Scripture Focus: Luke 2:46

“After three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.”

Observation: Jesus’ Posture among Leaders

• He placed Himself right in the midst of recognized teachers.

• He listened first, spoke second.

• His questions were sincere, not argumentative.

• Even at twelve, He modeled humility under authority.

Ways We Can Engage Spiritual Leaders

1. Position Yourself Where Truth Is Taught

– “Let us not neglect meeting together…” (Hebrews 10:25)

– Seek out gatherings, classes, and personal meetings where Scripture is opened faithfully.

2. Listen Actively

– “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…” (James 1:19)

– Take notes, absorb tone and intent, and resist planning rebuttals while others speak.

3. Ask Thoughtful, Honest Questions

– “The ear of the wise seeks it out.” (Proverbs 18:15)

– Like Jesus, frame questions to understand, not to trap or impress.

4. Examine Everything by the Word

– “They examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.” (Acts 17:11)

– Keep an open Bible and a discerning mind; truth welcomes inspection.

5. Share Insights with Mutual Edification

– “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another…” (Colossians 3:16)

– Offer your perspective humbly, aiming to build up, not to gain stature.

6. Honor and Submit to Godly Leadership

– “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch over your souls…” (Hebrews 13:17)

– Esteem those who labor in the word, even while testing all things (1 John 4:1).

7. Maintain Childlike Teachability

– “Unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3)

– A teachable spirit invites deeper instruction and fellowship.

Rooted in Scripture

• Listening builds faith (Romans 10:17).

• Wise questions unlock understanding (Proverbs 1:5).

• Mutual submission fosters unity (Ephesians 4:11-13).

Fruit of Such Engagement

• Personal growth in “wisdom and stature” (Luke 2:52).

• Strengthened faith community, walking in peace (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13).

• Leaders who serve with joy, benefiting everyone (Hebrews 13:17).
