How to foster unity in our church?
In what ways can we promote unity in our church community today?

Jesus’ Warning Against Division

“ If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” (Mark 3:25)

• Jesus speaks plainly: division destroys. The statement is factual, not hypothetical—He establishes a principle that applies to every household, congregation, and nation.

• Because Scripture is both accurate and literal, we accept this warning as an unchanging reality for our local church family.

Why Unity Matters to God

Psalm 133:1 — “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony!”

John 17:21 — Jesus prays “that they may all be one… so the world may believe.”

• Unity authenticates our witness and invites God’s blessing.

Practical Steps to Promote Unity

• Walk in humility and patience (Ephesians 4:2-3).

• Bear with and forgive one another (Colossians 3:13-14).

• Look out for the interests of others (Philippians 2:2-4).

• Maintain regular fellowship—meals, small groups, corporate worship (Acts 2:42,46).

• Serve side-by-side in ministry; shared mission knits hearts together (Nehemiah 4:6).

Guarding Our Speech

• “Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths” (Ephesians 4:29).

• Avoid gossip and slander; they fracture trust (Proverbs 16:28).

• Speak words that edify, clarify, and reconcile (James 3:8-10).

Handling Conflict Biblically

• Go privately first (Matthew 18:15).

• Involve one or two witnesses only if needed (v. 16).

• Seek restorative outcomes, not personal victory (Galatians 6:1).

Cultivating Humility and Service

• Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45).

• Wash one another’s feet in practical ways—meals for the sick, childcare for single parents, quiet acts unseen by most (John 13:14-15).

• Mutual service breaks down pride and builds familial affection.

Prioritizing Sound Doctrine

• Unity grows around truth, not at the expense of it (Jude 3).

• Regular, clear teaching protects against the drift that spawns factions (Titus 1:9).

• Study the Word together; when hearts align with Scripture, they align with each other.

Depending on the Holy Spirit

• “Make every effort” toward peace (Romans 14:19), yet rely on the Spirit’s power, not fleshly resolve (Galatians 5:22-23).

• Gather for Spirit-led prayer meetings; shared intercession joins souls (Ephesians 6:18).

Celebrating Diversity within One Body

• “Just as we have many parts in one body… so in Christ we who are many are one body” (Romans 12:4-5).

• Differences in age, background, and gifting are divine design, not obstacles.

• Publicly honor varied contributions; unity thrives where every member feels valued (1 Corinthians 12:22-26).

Living Out the Lesson

Take Mark 3:25 at face value: division guarantees collapse. Choose daily words, attitudes, and actions that protect the “house” God is building among us. When Christ’s people stand united—anchored in truth, filled with love—the watching world sees a structure that cannot fall.
