What actions can we take to receive God's blessing as in Exodus 1:20? Setting the Scene - “So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied and became even more numerous.” (Exodus 1:20) - The Lord’s favor flowed because the midwives chose God’s way over Pharaoh’s command. Our own choices can invite that same blessing. Fear God Above All - “The midwives, however, feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live.” (Exodus 1:17) • Cultivate reverent awe through daily Scripture and worship (Proverbs 9:10; Psalm 19:9). • Submit each decision to God’s Word, even when culture objects (Acts 5:29). Honor the Sanctity of Life - By protecting newborn Hebrews, the midwives affirmed life’s value. • Defend life from the womb to life’s final breath (Psalm 139:13-16). • Speak up for the voiceless and vulnerable (Proverbs 31:8-9). Choose Courageous Obedience - They risked repercussions by disobeying an evil edict. • Obey God when pressure says otherwise (Daniel 3:16-18). • Stand firm at work, school, or community when commands conflict with Scripture. Walk in Integrity - Their actions matched their conviction. • Keep a clean conscience before God (Psalm 15:1-2). • Work wholeheartedly as to the Lord (Colossians 3:23). Live Out Compassion - Compassion drove them to protect mothers and infants. • Show practical kindness to those in need (James 1:27). • Serve families, children, and the hurting through tangible help. Expect God’s Faithful Reward - “And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.” (Exodus 1:21) • “Blessed are all who fear the LORD and walk in His ways.” (Psalm 128:1) • “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33) - God’s blessing may come as protection, provision, influence, or eternal reward, but it always arrives at the perfect time. Putting It Into Practice - Start every day acknowledging God’s sovereignty. - Actively protect and value human life. - Choose obedience to Scripture over peer or governmental pressure. - Maintain integrity in speech, work, and relationships. - Let compassion move you to sacrificial service. Following the midwives’ pattern welcomes the same gracious verdict: “God was good to them.” |
