How to help others avoid sin again?
How can we support others to avoid being "entangled" again in sin?

The Danger of Re-Entanglement

“If indeed they have escaped the corruption of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, yet are again entangled in it and overcome, their final condition is worse than they were at first.” – 2 Peter 2:20

Remembering Christ’s Complete Deliverance

• Freedom is already won: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1

• Ongoing faith is essential: “By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you.” – 1 Corinthians 15:2

• Hold to truth daily: “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32

Standing Guard Together

• Stay alert: “Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8

• Encourage daily: “Exhort one another daily … so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” – Hebrews 3:13

• Meet consistently: “Let us not neglect meeting together … but let us encourage one another.” – Hebrews 10:25

Gentle Restoration When Stumbles Occur

• Restore with humility:

“Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” – Galatians 6:1

• Carry burdens: “Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2

• Rescue the wanderer: “Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and cover over a multitude of sins.” – James 5:20

Building Lasting Habits of Freedom

• Regular time in Scripture together – read, discuss, memorize.

• Mutual accountability – honest check-ins on temptations and victories.

• Shared spiritual disciplines – fasting, worship, serving.

• Setting clear boundaries – remove triggers, choose edifying influences.

• Celebrating growth – testify to answered prayers and progress.

Keeping False Teaching at Bay

• Test every message by the written Word (Acts 17:11).

• Warn when doctrine drifts, as Peter did in this letter.

• Protect the vulnerable by clearly explaining gospel truth (2 Peter 1:3-4).

Continual Dependence on God’s Power

• Armor up: “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Ephesians 6:17

• Rely on the Spirit’s enabling, not human strength (Galatians 5:16).

• Stand firm together until the day He presents us “blameless with great joy” (Jude 24).
