How to reflect God's excellence in work?
How can we ensure our work for God reflects the excellence seen in Exodus 28:6?

The gold-thread lesson of Exodus 28:6

“They are to make the ephod of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely spun linen, skillfully crafted.” (Exodus 28:6)

What excellence looked like then

• Finest materials—gold, rare dyes, and linen

• Skilled workmanship—“skillfully crafted,” not hastily thrown together

• God-given design—pattern revealed by the Lord, not human imagination (cf. Exodus 25:40)

• Set apart for worship—every stitch served a holy purpose

Translating priestly craftsmanship to daily service

• Choose quality over convenience

– Offer God your best time, energy, and resources, not leftovers (Malachi 1:8)

– Budget for excellence; cheap shortcuts often dishonor the task

• Hone the skills He has entrusted

– “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings.” (Proverbs 22:29)

– Read, study, practice, and seek mentoring so your gifting grows sharper

• Depend on Spirit-given ability

– Bezalel was “filled…with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability, and knowledge” (Exodus 31:3)

– Pray for wisdom and creativity before beginning any ministry project

• Follow the pattern of Scripture

– Align every plan with clear biblical instruction (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

– Measure success by faithfulness to God’s revealed will, not by cultural applause

• Work wholeheartedly for the Lord

– “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” (Colossians 3:23)

– Even unseen tasks matter; the High Priest’s ephod was viewed by few, yet crafted to perfection

• Guard order and beauty

– “Everything must be done in a proper and orderly manner.” (1 Corinthians 14:40)

– Clutter, confusion, and sloppiness can cloud the glory we intend to display

• Serve in community

– The tabernacle team combined varied gifts (Exodus 35:34-35)

– Invite feedback; excellence grows where iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17)

• Keep the focus on holiness

– Excellence is not vanity; it is worship (Psalm 29:2)

– Ask: Does this project point people to the beauty of God’s character?

Putting it into practice this week

1. Identify one ministry task on your plate.

2. List what “gold, blue, purple, and scarlet” would look like for that task—materials, time, training.

3. Schedule concrete steps to upgrade quality, tighten craftsmanship, and seek Spirit-led creativity.

4. Submit the plan to Scripture and trusted believers for confirmation.

5. Execute joyfully, confident that excellent work honors the One who ordained it.
