How can we apply the example of Jesus revealing God to others today? Verse in Focus: John 17:6 “ I have revealed Your name to those You have given Me out of the world.” What Jesus Did • He “revealed” (unveiled, made plain) the Father’s name—His character, authority, and heart. • He did it in real time, with words, actions, and entire lifestyle. • He entrusted that revelation specifically to disciples who would, in turn, pass it on. Why It Matters • Scripture is clear: “No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son…has revealed Him” (John 1:18). • Jesus is “the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature” (Hebrews 1:3). • If we are in Christ, we are called to continue that revealing work: “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21). Practical Ways We Can Do the Same Today 1. Live Transparently • Authenticity lets people see God’s transforming power. • 2 Corinthians 4:7 – we carry treasure “in jars of clay” so the surpassing power points to God. 2. Speak the Word Plainly • Jesus quoted, explained, and fulfilled Scripture. • We share Scripture accurately, trusting its inherent power (Isaiah 55:11). • Avoid vague spirituality; clearly name Jesus as Lord (Acts 4:12). 3. Display the Father’s Character • Compassion: Matthew 9:36 • Holiness: 1 Peter 1:16 • Servanthood: John 13:14-15 • When His attributes shine through us, His “name” is revealed. 4. Prioritize Disciple-Making • Jesus poured into a few so the many would hear. • 2 Timothy 2:2 – teach reliable people who will teach others. • Personal investment multiplies divine revelation. 5. Pray Publicly and Privately • John 17 shows Jesus praying where disciples could listen. • Let others overhear dependence on the Father; it testifies that He is real and near. 6. Demonstrate Unity • John 17:23 – unity shows the world the Father sent the Son. • Guard relationships, reconcile quickly, partner across generations and backgrounds. 7. Walk in Visible Good Works • Matthew 5:16 – “let your light shine…that they may see your good works and glorify your Father.” • Service projects, hospitality, generosity make the invisible God tangible. Supporting Connections • Colossians 1:15 – Jesus is “the image of the invisible God.” • 1 John 4:12 – “If we love one another, God remains in us and His love is perfected in us.” • Philippians 2:15 – shine “like stars in the world” by holding fast to the word of life. Walking It Out Today Jesus did not merely talk about the Father; He embodied Him. By aligning our words, character, and relationships with the Word made flesh, we become living signposts to the same God Jesus revealed. The mission is ongoing, and every Christ-follower has a daily part to play in making the Father known. |
