How to stay thankful in all times?
How can we "always give thanks" in both good and challenging times?

The Verse at the Heart of Gratitude

“always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:20)

Grounded in Christ’s Name

• Gratitude flows from the relationship secured by Christ’s finished work.

• Because our thanks rise “in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” every circumstance is filtered through His authority, love, and redeeming power.

Colossians 3:17 echoes the same pattern: “Whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Thankful Because We Know His Character

• God remains Father, Shepherd, and Refuge, no matter the season (Psalm 23:1; Psalm 46:1).

• His mercies are “new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

• Remembering who He is steadies the heart so gratitude stays active.

Eyes on God’s Bigger Story

Romans 8:28 assures that “all things work together for the good of those who love God.”

James 1:2-4 shows trials producing perseverance and maturity.

• Even hard moments become chapters in a larger testimony of grace.

Thankful in Good Times

• Acknowledge God openly when blessings are obvious (Deuteronomy 8:10).

• Celebrate with worship and testimony so others see the Giver behind the gifts (Psalm 34:1).

• Store up memories of answered prayer; they strengthen faith later.

Thankful in Challenging Times

• Speak truth aloud: “Though the fig tree does not bud…yet I will rejoice in the LORD” (Habakkuk 3:17-18).

• Pray with petition and thanksgiving; peace guards the heart (Philippians 4:6-7).

• Offer a “sacrifice of praise” when feelings lag behind faith (Hebrews 13:15).

• Recall past deliverance; yesterday’s faithfulness fuels today’s praise (1 Samuel 7:12).

Habits That Keep Gratitude Flowing

• Begin and end the day by naming specific reasons to thank God.

• Sing or read psalms aloud, letting Scripture give language to praise.

• Keep a written record of blessings, big and small.

• Express thanks immediately when receiving good news, provision, or comfort.

• Tell others how God sustains you, magnifying Him in community.
