How to welcome Jesus into our lives?
How can we create spaces for Jesus to be "at home" in our lives?

The Key Verse

“...so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love…” (Ephesians 3:17)

What Does “Dwell” Really Mean?

• “Dwell” (Greek katoikēo) pictures settling down, taking up permanent residence—not a weekend visit.

• Paul’s prayer assumes Christ’s indwelling is factual at salvation (John 14:23) yet also progressive as we yield every corner of life to Him (Revelation 3:20).

• The aim: a heart so surrendered that Jesus feels completely “at home.”

Preparing the Heart: Removing Obstacles

Just as you tidy a house for a guest, clear out what conflicts with His holy presence:

• Unconfessed sin (Isaiah 59:2; 1 John 1:9)

• Idols of affection—anything treasured above Him (Ezekiel 14:3)

• Chronic busyness that crowds out intimacy (Luke 10:40-42)

• Stubborn unforgiveness (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Furnishing the Heart: Faith-Filled Practices

These habits turn bare walls into a welcoming home:

• Word Saturation – “Let the word of Christ richly dwell among you” (Colossians 3:16). Read, memorize, meditate.

• Conversational Prayer – Ongoing dialogue, not formal visits (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• Obedient Steps – Love proves itself in doing what He says (John 14:21).

• Spirit-Led Fellowship – Gathering with believers keeps the home warm (Hebrews 10:24-25).

• Sacrificial Love – Roots and ground are in love; serve others tangibly (John 13:34-35).

Keeping the Home Welcoming

• Regular “heart housekeeping”: “Search me, O God…see if there is any offensive way in me” (Psalm 139:23-24).

• Continual gratitude—praise turns the lights on (Psalm 22:3).

• Worship through daily tasks: “Whatever you do…do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17).

Overflowing Hospitality: Letting Jesus Touch Every Room

• Family Room – Model grace and truth in conversations.

• Kitchen Table – Invite Him to meals; practice thankfulness.

• Study/Work Space – View vocation as His assignment (Colossians 3:23-24).

• Doorstep – Share the gospel; open your literal home to others (Romans 12:13).

• Community Streets – Act justly, love mercy, walk humbly (Micah 6:8).

Summing It Up

Clear the clutter, furnish with faith, keep the atmosphere holy and grateful, and let every “room” of life display His lordship. When Christ is free to settle down without rival, He is unmistakably “at home” in us—and the watching world receives a living glimpse of Him.

Why is it significant that Jesus was 'at home' in Mark 2:1?
