Keep hearts open to God's voice today?
How can we ensure our hearts remain open to God's voice today?

Listening Like Today Matters

“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” – Hebrews 4:7

God still speaks; He expects a tender, receptive response “today.” Staying open is an intentional, daily choice.

Rooting Our Readiness in God’s Word

• Stay in Scripture daily

Psalm 119:11: “I have hidden Your word in my heart…”

– When God’s voice comes through His Word, familiarity breeds faith, not contempt.

• Read with expectation

Isaiah 55:11 assures every word from God “will accomplish what I please.” Approach every reading anticipating personal direction.

Guarding Against Heart-Hardening

• Repent quickly

Hebrews 3:13 warns that sin’s deceitfulness “hardens” us. Confess early; keep no lingering rebellion.

• Refuse cynicism

1 Timothy 1:19 speaks of a “shipwrecked” faith when conscience is ignored. Choose trust over suspicion.

• Watch the company you keep

Proverbs 13:20: “The companion of fools will be destroyed.” Surround yourself with believers who soften, not harden, your heart.

Cultivating a Listening Lifestyle

• Practice stillness

Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Schedule quiet, electronics-free moments to hear His whisper.

• Obey promptly

John 14:21: love for Christ shows in obedience. The more quickly we act on what we hear, the clearer His voice becomes.

• Pray Scripture back to God

Colossians 3:16: letting “the word of Christ richly dwell” means turning passages into dialogue, not monologue.

Staying Sensitive through Worship

• Sing truth-filled songs

Ephesians 5:19 links psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with Spirit-filling. Music warms cold hearts.

• Remember His works

Psalm 103:2: “Forget not all His benefits.” Recounting past faithfulness keeps present ears open.

Living in the “Today” of Hebrews 4:7

Every sunrise renews the invitation: hear Him afresh, respond in faith, and keep the heart soft.
