Link Job 22:12 & Psalm 139:7-10: Omnipresence.
Connect Job 22:12 with Psalm 139:7-10 on God's omnipresence.

Setting the Scene

Job’s friend Eliphaz throws out a question that sounds almost rhetorical:

Job 22:12 – “Is not God as high as the heavens? Look at the highest stars, how lofty they are!”

He is accusing Job of thinking God is too distant to notice sin. David, centuries later, answers that idea from a very different heart posture in Psalm 139.

Psalm 139:7-10 – David’s Testimony

• Verse 7 – “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence?”

• Verse 8 – “If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.”

• Verse 9 – “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle by the farthest sea,”

• Verse 10 – “even there Your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast.”

Drawing the Lines Together

• Eliphaz speaks of God’s transcendence (“as high as the heavens”).

• David affirms both transcendence and immanence—God is “there” in every extreme.

• The same truth confronts rebellion (Eliphaz’s aim) and comforts believers (David’s song).

Key Truths About Omnipresence

• God’s presence is not limited by location, altitude, or depth.

• He is simultaneously above the heavens (Job 22:12) and at our side (Psalm 139:10).

• His presence exposes hidden sin—Prov 15:3 “The eyes of the LORD are everywhere…”

• His presence assures steadfast care—Isa 41:10 “I am with you; do not be afraid…”

Living in the Light of an Everywhere God

• Comfort in loneliness: even “the farthest sea” cannot out-distance His guiding hand.

• Accountability in secrecy: no “secret place” conceals us—Jer 23:24 “Do I not fill the heavens and earth?”

• Courage in mission: wherever He sends, He is already there—Matt 28:20 “I am with you always…”

Additional Scriptures to Firm Our Convictions

Jeremiah 23:23 “Am I only a God nearby…and not a God far away?”

Hebrews 4:13 “Nothing…is hidden from God’s sight.”

1 Kings 8:27 “The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain You.”

Job 22:12 raises the question; Psalm 139:7-10 settles it—God is gloriously, unavoidably everywhere.

How can Job 22:12 encourage trust in God's unseen presence daily?
