Prioritize spirit over wealth today?
How can we prioritize spiritual wisdom over material wealth in our lives today?

Scripture Focus: 1 Kings 10:23

“So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.”

Solomon’s Lesson: Riches Plus Wisdom

• God blessed Solomon with both, yet Scripture highlights wisdom alongside (and ultimately above) his wealth.

1 Kings 3:9-13 shows Solomon asking for “an understanding heart” before riches; God gladly granted both, underscoring the priority order.

• His later life (1 Kings 11) warns that abundance without sustained wisdom leads to compromise.

Why Spiritual Wisdom Matters More

Proverbs 3:13-15—wisdom is “more precious than rubies; nothing you desire compares with her.”

James 3:17—wisdom from above is “pure, peace-loving, considerate,” shaping Christlike character, not bank accounts.

Colossians 2:3—Christ is the treasury of “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Union with Him outlasts every earthly asset.

Matthew 6:33—seek His kingdom first; material needs follow as God’s provision.

Hazards of Chasing Wealth

1 Timothy 6:9-10—craving riches plunges people “into ruin and destruction.”

Proverbs 23:4-5—riches “sprout wings” and fly away; wisdom stays.

Matthew 13:22—“the deceitfulness of wealth” chokes the Word, stifling spiritual fruit.

Pursuing Wisdom First: Practical Steps

1. Daily Word intake

– Read a chapter of Proverbs or Psalms along with other Scripture to keep godly perspective on success.

2. Prayer for discernment

– Echo Solomon’s request: “Give Your servant an understanding heart.” God still grants wisdom generously (James 1:5).

3. Christ-centered community

– Walk with the wise (Proverbs 13:20). Small groups and mentoring relationships reinforce eternal values.

4. Stewardship-minded budgeting

– Treat every dollar as trust capital. Allocate firstfruits to God (Proverbs 3:9) before discretionary spending.

5. Sabbath rhythms

– Regular rest breaks our culture’s production-driven grip and recenters hearts on the Giver, not the gifts.

6. Service before self

– Invest time, skills, and money into kingdom causes. Where your treasure is, your heart will follow (Matthew 6:21).

Keeping Wealth in Its Proper Place

• View money as a tool, not a trophy.

• Hold possessions with open hands—ready to give, share, lend (Acts 20:35).

• Celebrate God’s provision without equating net worth with self-worth.

• Evaluate opportunities by eternal impact, not just financial return.

Encouragement: The Lasting Treasure

Philippians 3:8—“I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” When we prize His wisdom above all, we gain both present guidance and everlasting reward—a legacy far surpassing Solomon’s gold.
