How can we reflect God's majesty in our stewardship of the earth? Rooted in Psalm 89:12 “You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at Your name.” Seeing the World as His Masterpiece - Creation exists to proclaim God’s glory (Psalm 19:1). - Because He formed every mountain and meadow, every corner of the compass, the earth is not ours to exploit but His to loan (Psalm 24:1). - The literal act of creating north and south reminds us that every direction we turn, we face evidence of His majesty. Recognizing Our Assigned Role - From the beginning God gave people a clear, hands-on mandate: “fill the earth and subdue it; rule over” every living creature (Genesis 1:28). - Dominion is stewardship, not domination. We manage what ultimately belongs to Him, like caretakers in the King’s garden. - In Christ “all things hold together” (Colossians 1:16-17), so caring for creation means cooperating with the sustaining work He already performs. Reflecting His Majesty in Daily Stewardship • Honor His ownership – Treat land, water, and wildlife as sacred trust, not disposable property. – Litter picked up, resources conserved, habitats protected all whisper, “This is Yours, Lord.” • Mirror His order and beauty – Maintain homes, neighborhoods, and church grounds in ways that display creativity and tidiness, echoing the order of Eden. – Garden, landscape, and farm with practices that replenish soil and protect creatures, showing that life flourishes under righteous rule. • Practice grateful consumption – Receive every meal, product, and energy source with thanksgiving, mindful of its source. – Avoid waste; share surplus with neighbors and the needy, reflecting the generous heart of the Creator. • Advocate responsibly – Support policies and projects that preserve God’s handiwork without slipping into earth-worship. – Teach children biblical stewardship, grounding environmental care in worship, not politics. Momentum Toward Ultimate Restoration - Creation “waits in eager expectation” for the day God’s children are revealed (Romans 8:19-21). Our stewardship previews that freedom. - God will “destroy those who destroy the earth” (Revelation 11:18), underscoring the seriousness of our charge. - Each recycled can, planted tree, or protected species is a small but genuine echo of the coming new heaven and new earth where His majesty will be fully unveiled. Living It Out This Week - Take a prayer-walk, noticing how hills, rivers, and skies “shout for joy” at His name just as Tabor and Hermon do. - Choose one habit to reduce waste—reusable bags, shorter showers, or composting—and offer the change as worship. - Share a verse about creation’s glory with a friend, linking care for the planet to reverence for its Designer. |
