Show daily compassion like Pharaoh's daughter?
How can we show compassion like Pharaoh's daughter in our daily lives?

Compassion Observed in Exodus 2:5

“Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her maidens were walking along the riverbank. Seeing the basket among the reeds, she sent her maidservant to retrieve it.” (Exodus 2:5)

• An unlikely royal notices a helpless infant.

• She interrupts her routine and takes decisive action.

• Her choice preserves Moses, through whom God will later deliver Israel.

• Compassion here is active, costly, and life-saving.

What Compassion Looks Like Today

• Seeing beyond our schedules to the needs God places in front of us.

• Moving toward the vulnerable instead of passing by.

• Using whatever influence, resources, or authority we possess to protect life.

• Trusting that small mercies can fit into God’s larger redemptive plan.

Practical Ways to Imitate Pharaoh’s Daughter

• Notice the overlooked: greet the lonely coworker, sit with the new student, befriend the elderly neighbor.

• Intervene for the defenseless: volunteer at crisis-pregnancy centers, foster-care programs, or anti-trafficking ministries.

• Share resources: keep gift cards on hand for people in need; sponsor meals or medical bills quietly.

• Create safe spaces: open your home for Bible study, refuge during storms, or temporary housing for displaced families.

• Speak up: advocate for the unborn, the poor, and the persecuted when conversations turn dismissive.

• Integrate compassion into routine: schedule generosity as intentionally as appointments—budget, calendar, and mental bandwidth.

Motivations Powered by the Gospel

• Christ’s model: “When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion.” (Matthew 9:36)

• New-creation identity: “Put on … compassionate hearts.” (Colossians 3:12)

• Stewardship, not ownership: “The earth is the LORD’s.” (Psalm 24:1)

• Reward promised: “Whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:8)

Scripture to Strengthen Compassionate Hearts

Luke 10:33-34 — “But a Samaritan … had compassion.”

James 1:27 — “Pure and undefiled religion … to visit orphans and widows in their distress.”

Proverbs 31:8-9 — “Open your mouth for the mute … defend the rights of the afflicted.”

Matthew 25:40 — “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.”

Ephesians 4:32 — “Be kind and tender-hearted to one another.”

Galatians 6:9-10 — “Let us not grow weary in doing good … let us do good to everyone.”

Living It Out This Week

• Pray each morning for eyes to see a “basket among the reeds.”

• Carry a small mercy item—snack bag, blanket, gospel tract—to give away.

• Choose one local outreach and commit an hour.

• Set aside part of your paycheck for spontaneous needs.

• Tell one story of someone else’s compassion to encourage another believer.
